Without fail, I am constantly being asked, “Ashley, what made you choose family photography? You can make a lot more if you do weddings!”

GOING BACK TO MY HUMBLE PHOTOGRAPHY BEGINNINGS

I will be the first to admit that when I first started photography, I wholeheartedly thought that I wanted to be a wedding photographer! For me, I thought I wanted to shoot epic love stories and luxurious weddings. I mean, I LOVE love. I spend most of my free time imagining that I’m a Disney princess at heart and love a good love story.

But here is the thing…

I shot my first couple, and I realized how awkward I was! I couldn’t put my finger on it but something was missing from their love story — and then it hit me! Yes, do love a good love story… but more of a family’s love story!

I love parents playing with their children as they all experience their baby’s belly laugh! Seeing families connect with each other is truly where my photography passion comes into play.

SHIFTING INTO FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY

Once I realized that my heart wasn’t at the beginning of a love story, but I realized that it was set on capturing love stories smack dab in the middle. In the middle when their love has grown to create an incredible family.

THAT IS WHAT I DISCOVERED I WAS PASSIONATE ABOUT.

From that simple moment that I wanted to forever capture and show the amazing fact that love stories don’t end after the wedding! They grow and evolve into something amazing when a family is started.

I can proudly say that I HAVE NEVER LOOKED BACK.

Plus, I’m pretty awesome with children! I like being goofy and seeing the world through a child’s eyes!
