Why did you start your photography business?

Being a stay-at-home mom, things started to feel repetitive, and I was itching to be creative in some way. I originally bought a camera to take pictures of my kids but quickly learned I actually enjoyed capturing emotion through the lens and the fact that you could freeze a memory.

What keeps you going when business is tough?

Being able to express myself through the lens. Pushing myself with new ways of telling someone’s story gives me a sense of purpose and self-gratitude, even when things around me seem to be difficult. Hearing my clients’ kind words is a high I’ll never get over!

What are your goals for the next year?

Adding new locations to my portfolio and venturing into adventure sessions for elopements and engagement photos. Since starting, I’ve been gravitating more toward couples vs. families, although I still love to shoot both!

What are you most proud of in your business?

The fact that people have no idea I’ve only been a professional photographer for six months. I’ve worked really hard researching how to use my camera, where to put light, and how to use movement to capture real emotion. Since starting, this is the biggest compliment I get from clients.
